Sacred Sites We Serve from Jaigaon

Jaigaon's position at the Bhutan border makes it an important transit point for pilgrims from Bhutan, Sikkim, and North East India heading to India's sacred sites.

Bodh Gaya, Bihar

The place of Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Home to the Mahabodhi Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO and protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in the world, drawing monks and pilgrims from Bhutan, Tibet, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

Varanasi & Sarnath

Varanasi (Kashi) is one of the world's oldest living cities and the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage site in India. Sarnath, 10 km away, is where the Buddha gave his first sermon after enlightenment — a key site in Buddhism managed by the ASI. Uttar Pradesh Tourism identifies this corridor as India's primary spiritual tourism circuit. We cover this as a long-distance outstation taxi or as part of a Buddhist circuit package.

Day 1 — Depart
Jaigaon → Bodh Gaya (~750 km)

Night departure 6–8 PM. Arrive Bodh Gaya 8–10 AM. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple (UNESCO World Heritage), circumambulate the Bodhi Tree, meditate in the temple complex. Managed by ASI. Overnight at monastery guesthouse (Bhutanese, Japanese, Thai monasteries all have guesthouses).

Day 2–3
Bodh Gaya → Varanasi / Sarnath (~260 km)

Drive to Varanasi. Visit Sarnath — where the Buddha delivered his first Dhamma discourse (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta). The UP Tourism-recognised Dhamek Stupa and Sarnath Museum are unmissable. Evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Overnight in Varanasi.

Day 3–4

FAQ

Pilgrimage Taxi — Common Questions

What is the taxi fare from Jaigaon to Bodh Gaya?
A taxi from Jaigaon to Bodh Gaya starts at ₹18,000 for a Sedan (one-way). SUV/MPV ₹22,000, Innova Crysta ₹26,000, Tempo Traveller ₹38,000. Fares are all-inclusive — fuel, tolls, driver bata, state permits. See the full Bodh Gaya route page for more details.
Can Buddhist pilgrims from Bhutan book a taxi to Bodh Gaya from Jaigaon?
Yes. Many Buddhist pilgrims visiting Phuentsholing (Bhutan border) extend their journey to Bodh Gaya. We handle the Jaigaon → Bodh Gaya leg. Our partner DmcBhutanTrips.com coordinates the Bhutan-side arrangements. Group discounts available for monastery groups of 10+.
What is the best time to visit Bodh Gaya?
The best time to visit Bodh Gaya is October to March, when the weather is pleasant. The Bihar Tourism Board notes that the Mahabodhi Temple is at its liveliest during Buddha Purnima (April/May) and during the Dalai Lama's teachings (usually December–January). Book accommodation and taxis well in advance during these peak periods.
Do you provide taxis for large monastery pilgrimage groups?
Yes. We operate Tempo Travellers (15–20 seats) and Toyota Coaster Buses (30 seats) for large monastery and pilgrimage groups. Group discounts are available. WhatsApp us your group size, travel dates, and destination for a custom package quote.
Is Sarnath worth visiting along with Bodh Gaya?
Absolutely. Sarnath (10 km from Varanasi) is where the Buddha delivered his first sermon — the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta — to his first five disciples. The ASI-maintained Dhamek Stupa and the Sarnath Museum (housing the Lion Capital of Ashoka — India's national emblem) make it an essential stop. We recommend doing Bodh Gaya + Varanasi/Sarnath as a 3–4 day circuit from Jaigaon.
